The Top 5 Benefits of Building a Website using WordPress

Chances are, if you are considering building a new website you have heard of WordPress. But why would you choose it over a regular website? There are many reasons why a WordPress site could better suit your needs than the alternatives, but here are 5 of the most important ones.

  1. Easy Editing with Minimal Coding Skills

In a perfect world you would be able to build a site, put it online and never touch it again, but this is almost never the case. For the typical website, changes to the design and content of the site are frequent and inevitable. This is where WordPress stands out from the other alternatives. If your website is built in static HTML, changes to the site will need to be made by someone with coding skills, but with WordPress, you can add, edit and remove content as easily as if you were editing Word document. Not having to rely on a developer to update your website can save money and time, and allow frequent site updates which can be great for SEO.

  1. Themes & Plugins

Redesigning an entire website can be a long and difficult task, which can translate to a large expense. With WordPress however, the design of the website can be completely changed with the click of a button. Of course there will usually be some customization required to make a theme look it’s best when applied to a site, but the development time will still be considerably less than updating the design of a static site.

The same can be said for WordPress plugins. Plugins allow you to avoid reinventing the wheel when it comes to adding functionality to your site. For example, if you wanted to create a community by adding forum functionality to your site, several plugins are available to install and configure on your site instead of having to develop the feature from scratch.

  1. SEO

Search Engine Optimization is one of the most important concerns for any website owner. Whether you want to sell a product, provide information, or just create an online presence, it won’t happen if people don’t see your site. Fortunately, the structure of a basic WordPress site is very SEO friendly. WordPress site owners have a huge advantage in that they can install SEO plugins such as Yoast SEO, which can help guide the content creator towards SEO best practices. Additionally, Google Analytics can be integrated into a WordPress site to give SEO insights directly on the site dashboard.

  1. Low Cost

An obvious advantage of WordPress is that it is free to download the basic WordPress installation and begin building the site. Additionally, there are many free themes and plugins available. Obviously unless you are building the WordPress site yourself there will be development costs, but the ease of use of WordPress can dramatically lower the development costs when compared with a similar site built with static HTML.

  1. Popularity

Due in part to the advantages listed above, WordPress has become quite popular. This popularity has created a strong community around WordPress, which has become an advantage in itself. When you run into a problem with your WordPress site, odds are someone else has also had that problem, figured out the solution and explained that solution in the WordPress forums. Additionally, WordPress is open source, which means that anyone can contribute to it, and it is continually being improved and updated.
